My Cat Mandy
Some days are just packed with amazing things. Harrison and I talked on the phone today...twice. I don't want to ruin it for anybody, but the first time we talked it was about Linux. The second time we talked it was about Pound Cake. Radical to the extreme.
Then I spent sometime with Grandma Piña. And I made poundcake for her. I also found out that she read Meander in one sitting. She said that she couldn't put it down. (I knew that putting some superglue on the cover before handing it to her was a good idea. I'm kidding, I only thought it was a good idea.)
But tonight I was blown away. This is a segment from one of the notes:
And now she has a baby! See what not talking to people can do? Some people say that sex is what makes babies, but I know better. It's not talking to people that you went to kindergarten with. Think about it. What am I talking about? This is the part where Harrison holds up three fingers and kinda drops his head. But don't worry folks, I have my little "That joke failed so I'll do a little goofy dance thing to win back their laughter" dance thing that I can use. Bam! I just did it.
Collect yourselves, I am trying to continue.
So Mandy named her child after me. That is quite an honor even if she didn't do it on purpose. How do you one-up someone after they've named someone after you? I guess you can't, because trying can only lead to a vicious game of trying to out honor one another: I named my cat after you, You named your daughter after me, I name a ... fleet of boats after you?...um...really nice boats that are somehow more amazing than your human daughter (work with me) then you discover a new country and name it after me, then I have to find a new planet and name it after you. I think that I'll just stick with being very honored that someone would give their child a name knowing that they'd have to share it with me.
On a truly sad note, she gave me news very juxaposed to birth. It seems that on May 17th, 2005 Kyle McDonough, a best friend of mine while growing up in Maryland, has passed away. She did not have any other information about it to relay. This makes my heart sad. We had the most fun playing with Ninja Turtles and having adventures in the woods. Kyle was always in fond memories of Maryland. And he still will be.

"So do you remember me? You better. Remember you named your cat after me? Well I named my daughter after you!"It was an email from Mandy Fyock. We went to Kindergarten together. And although I have kept up with some after we moved from Maryland, but I haven't talked to her in many years.
